Nearly half of viewers watching TV had Strictly on the box
Strictly Come Dancing might now be in its 16th series but it's showing no signs of slowing down, as it dominated the TV ratings once again on Saturday night (September 29).
The BBC reality show's official PR account tweeted that the second episode of this year's Strictly was "the most watched show across all channels on TV yesterday", hitting a peak of 9.5 million viewers.
The average viewing figure was 8.4 million, giving it a 46.8% audience share.
The latest series has got off to an impressive start ratings-wise, with 10 million of us enjoying the first live show of the series on September 22, following on from a huge launch show audience too.
Once again though we avoided a clash of the Saturday night reality titans as The X Factor aired at the later time of 8.35pm, starting just as Strictly was ending. According to overnight ratings, The X Factor managed an average viewing figure of 4.6 million.
Last night's Strictly saw Pussycat Doll Ashley Roberts and her partner Pasha Kovalev top the leaderboard with their Cha Cha Cha to 'Boogie Wonderland', which judge Darcey Bussell called "lively" and "bright".
Meanwhile, it's Joe Sugg and his partner Dianne Buswell who continue to win the viewers over, and last night they did so yet again with their Charleston to the classic 'Cotton Eye Joe' by Rednex.
"It was inspired, it was original, a different interpretation of the Charleston and it worked a treat," Bruno told the couple, while Craig added that they're "ticking a lot of boxes" and Darcey complimented how "fun and free" their performance was.
Still, one couple has to leave the competition this week, and you can find out who will be the first to leave the dance floor during the results show, airing tonight (September 30) at 7.15pm on BBC One.
