Chances are, if you were watching TV last night, you were watching Strictly

Strictly Come Dancing's launch show earlier this month may have been the most-watched show on that Saturday night but, as it turns out, those numbers were nothing compared to its first live show of the series.

Yep, while a peak audience of 8.5 million viewers watched to see this year's celebrity line-up paired with their professional partners. a whopping 10 million of us tuned in to see those new couples take to the dance floor for the first time in the first live show of the series last night (September 22).

We're betting they were keen to see what Anton Du Beke was up to – and they wouldn't have been disappointed either.

The average audience figures are a bit more in line with its launch show, which saw 8.1 million viewers on average, but the audience share is pretty impressive for week one, with nearly half (47.3%) of people who were watching TV between 6.15pm and 8.35pm choosing to watch Strictly.

Which isn't bad going, really.

And those of you hoping for a battle of the Saturday night TV shows will be left a little disappointed this week, as ITV's rival The X Factor didn't start until 8.35pm last night, meaning there was no clash between the programmes.

Last night's Strictly marked the first time viewers got a taster for how the celebrities dance, with Danny John-Jules impressing audiences by dancing through his injury and Joe Sugg emerging as a surprising frontrunner.

"Tonight has been a night of surprises and you were the biggest one," judge Bruno Tonioli told Joe after his Jive with Dianne Buswell. "I had no idea you could actually come out here and do something like that. I wasn't expecting it."

Fortunately for all the celebs, no one will be leaving the competition this week, so we'll get to see everyone perform again when Strictly Come Dancing continues next Saturday (September 29) at 6.30pm on BBC One.
