With fresh rumours circulating that Celebrity Big Brother is coming to an end, Channel 5 has set the record straight about the future of the show.

The Daily Star reported today (July 29) that the upcoming series will be the last ever following declining ratings, but Channel 5 has said that there's been no developments with the series since the last time this was reported.

"The situation remains unchanged," a CBB spokesperson told Digital Spy. "Big Brother is currently contracted until the end of the year, there's no update on future series beyond 2018."

It's previously been reported that Channel 5 is taking pitches for shows to replace Big Brother, while speaking last year, Channel 5 boss Ben Frow said he'd be "much happier" if the channel didn't air the series, adding that he'd prefer for Channel 5 to focus on their own programmes instead.

Before we find out Celebrity Big Brother's ultimate fate though, we do still have at least one more series to look forward to as the new episodes kick off on Channel 5 very soon.

While the official line-up of new housemates is yet to be confirmed, the rumour mill has thrown up names including psychic Sally Morgan, former Coronation Street actor Ryan Thomas, Queer Eye star Jonathan Van Ness and ex-TOWIE star Dan Osborne.

Emma Willis will return as host of the live shows, while Rylan Clark-Neal is expected to be back to present Celebrity Big Brother's Bit on the Side too.

One person who appears to have confirmed that they'll be taking part in the new series is the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle's sister Samantha, who said: "Why not? Life is about cashing in.

"You take opportunities as they arise, and hopefully you enjoy the ride, and you can make it as positive as you can. There's nothing wrong with it."

Celebrity Big Brother returns to Channel 5 later this year.

Of course it'll fit; you just need a bigger hammer.
