A Nuneaton man won the heart of the nation when he proposed to his girlfriend live on one of the nation’s most popular TV programmes

Much to the delight of the audience, Callum Bailey went down on one knee to ask his girlfriend Jenna to marry him on last night’s ITV1’s Saturday Night Takeaway.

Fitness fans Callum, Jason Malloy and ex Nuneaton Boro FA Cup legend Gez Murphy were on the show on its first ever Run for Your Wife.

Jenna, Jason’s wife, Rachael and Gez’s wife Ashley were sat in the audience, unaware that their loved ones were out in different London landmarks in running gear, ready to race back to the studio to win a ‘place on the plane’ – tickets to the end of the series show in Universal Orlando Resort in America.

Host Ant McPartlin surprised the trio of women, saying: “Your other halves are completely obsessed with sports, they love it. For instance, Rachel, you had to spend your mother’s day watching your husband doing a cross country run.

“But for once, on a Saturday night, instead out being down the gym or out running, your partners are at home looking after the kids, while you three have a well-deserved ladies night out – isn’t that right? Not exactly, they aren’t there!”

It was then revealed that Gez was at Battersea Power Station, Jason was at Madame Tussauds and Callum was at Harrods and they had to race each other to get to the studio first, to win a ‘place on the plane’ for their families.

Battling against the snow and freezing weather, it was teacher Jason who completed the 5km race first, in 21 minutes and four seconds.

But the hosts decided to give tickets to them all – but then Ant McPartlin pointed out that Callum and Jenna weren't actually eligible for the prize, saying: "The section is called Run For Your Wife.

"But one of you isn't actually married."

Callum then then got down on one knee and pulled a ring out of his pocket, saying ‘Will you marry me?’ and Jenna said ‘yes’ as the audience erupted into cheers.
