Strictly smashes ratings in first direct clash with X Factor

Strictly wins a massive 10.5 million viewers, that's more than double what the X Factor managed

It might be the X Factor's final weekend, but Strictly Come Dancing still managed to trounce its reality show competitor in the prime-time Saturday night ratings battle.

It was quarter-finals week over on BBC One, and the Musicals-inspired special saw the remaining contestants take on numbers from the likes of Grease and Mary Poppins – and a peak audience of 10.5 million people tuned in to watch them do it.

While Strictly and X Factor have been on air at the same time in previous weeks, last night was the first time that both shows started at the same time, meaning they were in direct competition.

And it's safe to Strictly Come Dancing had The X Factor beat.

Over on ITV, on the other hand, the show's first night of it's final weekend drew in less than half of Strictly's viewers, with The Mirror reporting that a peak of 4.4 million viewers tuned in to watch finalists Grace Davies, Rak-Su and Kevin Davy White battle it out for a place in tonight's show.

It's still an impressive figure (even if it doesn't look so next to Strictly), and was even up 100,000 viewers on last week's semi-final, which is the first time the ratings have gone up between the two shows in years.

It is, however, also 1.1 million viewers less than The X Factor's 2016 final managed to draw in – and it's a far cry from the 19.4 million viewers who tuned in to see Matt Cardle crowned the winner in 2010.

Still, it's not over yet, as The X Factor is returning once again tonight to crown either Grace Davies or Rak-Su as their 2017 winner so there's still time to bring those ratings back up yet.

Before that though, there's still one final ratings battle to get through as The X Factor final airs from 7.15pm on ITV tonight (December 3), meaning it'll once again clash with Strictly Come Dancing, which will its results show tonight at 7.20pm on BBC One.

Not really surprising. I now never watch X Factor as last year it was eye watering boring.
