And it crushed X Factor, too

Strictly Come Dancing has waltzed its way to the top of last night's (September 30) ratings battle, as a whopping 9.3 million people tuned in to watch the second episode of this year's series.

Saturday's instalment of the Beeb's reality series saw celebs Aston Merrygold, Simon Rimmer and Alexandra Burke (among many, many, many others) take to the dance floor in the hopes of impressing the judges and viewers at home to survive the first elimination.

A peak of 10.2 million people watched the episode, making it even more successful than the equivalent episode of last year's series, which had an average of 8.6 million viewers tuning in.

Unsurprisingly, these huge numbers meant that Strictly completely trounced its competitors in the ratings battle: most notably X Factor, which attracted an average of 4.9 million viewers – almost half the number of Strictly.

Strictly was the most-watched show on telly yesterday, and also captured almost half of the viewers watching TV in that time slot, with an audience share of 44.9%.

It's pretty safe to say that the Strictly team are pleased with their continued domination of Saturday night telly, with no sign of fans dropping off from last week's live debut's similarly massive peak of 10.2 million viewers.
