That's a shedload of celebrity injuries averted

The future of The Jump is in question, but it definitely will not air next year.

Channel 4 has made the decision to bench Davina McCall's amateur winter sports reality competition in 2018 in order to make room for actual winter sports athletics at the Winter Olympics in South Korea.

"The Jump has been a hugely successful brand for Channel 4 over the last four years," a spokesperson told The Sun. "However, with such a huge amount of winter sport on screen at the start of 2018 we have decided to rest the show for the year."

The Jump has attracted its fair share of negative attention over the last few years for the more than 30 celebrity injuries that have sidelined contestants during competition.

The most infamous of those accidents forced Olympic gymnast Beth Tweddle to withdraw from the show in order to undergo surgery to fuse two vertebrae in her neck.

Former Holby City star Tina Hobley also recently revealed that she might never fully recover after dislocating her shoulder, breaking her arm and tweaking her knee while training for The Jump back in early 2016.

"My physio said just one of these injuries would have been one of the most serious seen on the show. To have all of them was unprecedented," she explained.

The Jump's most recent fourth series wrapped up on Channel 4 in March with Made in Chelsea's Spencer Matthews winning out over Olympian Louis Smith in the grand finale.
