The ITV2 series has been an absolute hit with viewers this year, the finale episode raking in an impressive 3 million views last night. According to overnight data cited by Radio Times, Love Island beat BBC One, BBC 2, Channel 4 and Channel 5 showings during the 9pm slot, gaining the biggest overnight audience in ITV2’s history.

Due to the show’s growing popularity, bosses have already decided to bring Love Island back for a fourth year running in 2018.

Head of Digital Channels & Acquisitions Paul Mortimer told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “At ITV2, we couldn’t be more thrilled with how Love Island fever has gripped the nation. Now established as the perfect series to start the summer, we’re delighted to be bringing the show back for our young adult audience in 2018.”

ITV Studios’ Creative Director for Entertainment, Richard Cowles, added: “We are delighted that viewers have embraced Love Island so wholeheartedly; it has become the most talked about show of the summer. We are thrilled that we will be back with a new series next year.”

Kem Cetinay and Amber Davies were voted as the winning couple during Monday night’s finale, and the pair were awarded with an enviable £50,000 prize.

The pair faced the final two alongside Camilla Thurlow and her partner Jamie Jewitt. Earlier in the show, Blazin’ Squad’s Marcel Sommerville and his girlfriend Gabby Allen finished in fourth place, just behind Chris Hughes and Olivia Attwood, who just missed out on the top two.

Love Island will return to ITV2 in 2018.
