The Great Christmas Bake Off: Who had the best Boxing Day ever by getting crowned Star Baker?

Chetna Makan has become the BBC's last ever Star Baker as she triumphed in tonight's Boxing Day edition of The Great Christmas Bake Off.

Chetna, who first appeared on Bake Off in 2014, beat stiff competition from Howard Middleton, James Morton and Janet Basu to win Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood's approval.

And it was well-deserved, as even the most stuffed of bellies would have leapt in joy at the sight of her showstopper trio of sweet treats - a chocolate roulade, a cheesecake and even some of those notorious Baked Alaskas.

In fact, it really all came down to the signature challenge as the remaining bakers all fell apart a little bit under the pressure of the tent… with Paul even openly laughing at James's attempts at macarons and fruit cakes ("I'm trying to be kind," Mary smirked). That's before we even mention his gingerbread cake stand completely collapsing.

Up until that point, it looked like James might snatch the title after he topped the Scandinavian technical challenge with an impressive - wait, let us make sure we've got this right - "kanellängd".

Even then, though, he took a few hints from Chetna when he spotted how she was shaping her enriched dough and copied her, leading to something of a cheating scandal. She later complained: "If he hadn't copied us, he wouldn't have come first. What can you do?"

Well, Chetna, in your case you can absolutely smash the showstopper and go on to win the whole show, can't you? After all, it's winning the war vs winning the battle…

The four bakers also treated the judges (and us) to some marvellous pastry-based canapés in the signature challenge - let's just say they put our frozen sausage rolls to shame.

And while Howard's showstopper challenge might not all have gone to plan - with Mary going so far as to call his stollen "disappointing" - the horror - he did manage to get closure on the custard front.

Yep, after his fellow baker Deborah accidentally (or not-so-accidentally) nicked his custard in the 2013 series, he managed to show off how he can do it in a much-praised trifle - and there were no crème anglaise criminals to be seen. Phew.

Chetna is the second winner of a festive Bake Off after Mary-Anne Boermans beat competition from Ali Imdad, Cathryn Dresser and Norman Calder to win yesterday's Christmas Day episode.

But that's the last time we'll have The Great British Bake Off on telly for ages as it's now moving to Channel 4. So we might just go and watch it again on iPlayer… it's Boxing Day. Don't judge us.
