Amelle Berrabah is narrowly saved with her Middle Eastern meal



Blue's Simon Webbe is the latest contestant to get the chop on Celebrity MasterChef.

Webbe was in competition with ex-Sugababe Amelle Berrabah, rugby sensation Neil Back, Rev Richard Coles and EastEnders favourite Laila Morse during Wednesday's episode.

In the final round, Amelle's Middle Eastern meal of chicken and lamb saved her in the eyes of the judges after a shaky day because she was "making more of an effort".

"I'd never do this again - but I had a great time," Simon said. "You can't always be a winner!"

Simon's course of ackee and saltfish starter and Caribbean curried mutton were criticised by Gregg Wallace and John Torode for not having enough "spice".

Neil Back and Rev Richard Coles were singled out as the two best chefs of the day by judge John Torode.

Earlier in the episode, all five contestants were challenged to prepare a meal incorporating Southeast Asian ingredients like king prawns, chili, noodles, rice and mango.

While Laila Morse presented her stir fry in two oddly-shaped piles, the dish earned surprising praise from the judges.

In the second of three challenges, Simon Webbe was teamed with Laila Morse and Neil Back to cook a busy lunch service at Zebrano in London.

Across town, Amelle Berrabah struggled to consistently prepare a tuna steak at Asia de Cuba - while Rev Richard Coles impressed with his steady hand.

With his elimination, Simon Webbe follows in the footsteps of Sinitta and Donna Air in leaving the competition.
