Simon Cowell has been criticised by some parts of the media and several fans for backing David Cameron in the general election.
Earlier today, the Britain's Got Talent judge released an open letter in The Sun newspaper, backing a Cameron-lead Conservative party to govern the UK.
However, his comments have been mocked by rival tabloid The Mirror, which has accused Cowell of being "strong-armed" into supporting the Conservatives by News Corporation boss Rupert Murdoch.
Cowell met David Cameron last November, which lead to the first rumours that the X Factor creator may be aligning himself with the party. However, the pair always insisted that the discussion over dinner was charity related.
Criticism from fans on Twitter has also lead to speculation that ratings for Britain's Got Talent could be damaged by his political stance.
One reality TV fan said: "Simon Cowell has always said he wouldn't get involved in politics but he's gone against his word - and his viewers."
Another added: "What a surprise, Cowell is backing the Tories. On the advice of his accountant, no doubt."
A source told the newspaper: "There is a real concern that this will hit ratings. The golden rule of television is not to align yourself with one party or another. Not only does it turn off viewers, it turns off advertisers too."
Personally, I can't think of anything less likely to pursuade me to vote Tory than a recommendation from Simon Cowell
