Jones out as fans save 'Jedward'

Lucie Jones has been voted off the ITV1 talent show The X Factor after public support saved twins John and Edward Grimes following the sing-off.

Judge Simon Cowell could have voted to send the twins, nicknamed "Jedward", out of the competition, but said: "I am going to let the public decide."

Judge Louis Walsh had voted to keep the double act, whom he mentors.

But fellow judges Dannii Minogue and Cheryl Cole both wanted 18-year-old Jones to remain in the contest.

After the result of public voting was announced, Jones said: "I'm gutted but the boys deserve to be here - they work harder than anyone."

The 17-year-old Dublin twins have divided the judges' and public opinion, with critics saying they lack the singing ability to justify their continued presence in the competition.

Minogue, who mentored Jones, said: "I just wish all the good singers good luck in the singing competition.

"It shouldn't have happened," she added.

Cowell has previously joked he will leave the country if John and Edward win, but on Saturday's programme he praised their performance of the Ghostbusters theme.

"It was possibly more entertaining than anything you have done before. Well done," he said.
