Abi Alton exited the show following a sing-off with Hannah Barrett. The result means that Nicole Scherzinger loses the first act from her Girls category.

Alton took on Ed Sheeran's 'Lego House' in the sing-off, while Barrett performed Miley Cyrus's recent hit 'Wrecking Ball'.

Scherzinger refused to take part in this week's vote as she could not choose between her two acts. Gary Barlow and Sharon Osbourne both chose to send home Alton.

Barlow and Osbourne both commented that Alton had left it too late to give an amazing performance. After the result had been announced, Louis Walsh revealed that he would also have chosen to save Barrett and send Alton home.

Speaking to host Dermot O'Leary, Alton said: "I never in a million and one years anticipated that I would get this far. I've had the time of my life and I've met the most amazing people. I would never change it so thank you."

She added on The Xtra Factor: "Obviously I'm gutted but I'm so thankful for this experience. I can't put it into to words. It's been amazing."

She revealed that it was "the most awful thing in the world" to compete against Barrett, who she described as 'her girl'.

Speaking about her mentor, Alton added: "Thank you so much, Nicole. I've really struggled with my confidence in my performances and Nicole has really helped me with that."

The latest live results show of the year saw live performances from Celine Dion and Robbie Williams.

Meanwhile, the finalists came together for a joint rendition of John Newman's 'Love Me Again' at the start of the programme.

The X Factor continues next Saturday (November 16) at 8pm on ITV. Gary Barlow and Miley Cyrus will perform on next Sunday's (November 17) results show.
