The 55-year-old finishes the show in fourth place, leaving Charlie Brooks, David Haye and Ashley Roberts as a final three.

Upon leaving, Bristow said he had "had a great time" on the show, although he expressed regret at not quite making the final.

He told presenters Ant & Dec: "I would have liked to have made the last three, I would have liked to have a go at the grubs."

He had no qualms with the final three, however, saying: "You got the three young 'uns there, it's worked out alright."

Of his bushtucker trials, Bristow said the toughest was the 'Great Escape' trial, where he was forced to pull himself on his back along a tunnel filled with cockroaches and maggots, saying it "got his heart going" and was "like being in an old prison film".

On his clashes with Helen Flanagan in the first week of camp, he said: "It was bad because we weren't eating. After a while it wasn't funny anymore." He then noted that Haye had done a trial that Flanagan had failed earlier and said it was "easy".

On his no-nonsense, straight-talking style, he said: "I tell the truth, whether it hurts or not... You've got to have a good memory to lie, and I don't have a good memory."

Bristow has become noted for the accuracy of his predictions for who would leave the jungle and cautiously tipped Haye to win, although he did say: "[That's] unless one of the girls goes for it - they're both strong characters, so it wouldn't surprise me."

I'm a Celebrity continues on ITV1 tomorrow (November 30) at 9pm.
