The actor and his dance partner Ola Jordan left the competition after finishing in the bottom two alongside Bond star Colin Salmon and professional Kristina Rihanoff.

Both couples performed their Halloween-themed dances for a second time in the dance-off, with Owen dancing a cha cha cha to 'Ghostbusters' by Ray Parker Jr and Salmon a salsa to 'Superstition' by Stevie Wonder in a bid to stay in the competition.

Craig Revel Horwood was the first to give his verdict on the couples and chose to save Salmon, saying: "This couple were dynamic and simply better dancers - and that couple is Colin and Kristina."

Darcey Bussell also chose to save Salmon. "Well, they both were so much better than the performances yesterday," she said. "Although the nerves hit them really hard... I am going to have to save Colin and Kristina."

Bruno Tonioli made it three unanimous votes to save Salmon, and Owen was forced to say his goodbyes and ready himself for his last dance.

"I have loved every minute of it, thanks to Ola," he said. "She is a hard taskmaster but she has been great and we have had so much fun.

"And now I can even feel comfortable going out and maybe having a little dance," he added.

Sunday's results show also featured a group performance by the Strictly professional dancers to Britney Spears's 'Toxic', and Paloma Faith also performed her new single 'Never Tear Us Apart'.

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday, November 3 at 6.30pm on BBC One.
