With ITV moving the show to 8.30pm to avoid another clash with its BBC rival, the latest Got Talent audition picked up 9.52m (38.2%) and 489k (2.2%) on +1 - equalling 10m and overall up on last year's equivalent instalment.

Meanwhile, The Voice UK's first Battle Round logged 9.89m (42.3%) for BBC One, a drop of nearly 800k on last week's Blind Audition.

However, The Voice's huge peak of 11.6m was a million higher than Got Talent's 10.6m, and was ahead of the ITV show with timeshift excluded.

The National Lottery: In It To Win It (4.49m/18.1%) and Casualty (4.72m/20.4%) aired elsewhere on BBC One to steady audiences.

Philip Schofield's The Cube, shifted forward to 7.30pm, collapsed to 2.63m (11.1%) for ITV1 at 7.30pm, while a repeat of Benidorm at 9.45pm amused 2.93m (13.7%) and 221k (1.5%) on +1.

A 1970s-themed night on BBC Two pulled in the punters, as TV 73: The Defining Shows secured 1.48m (6.3%) at 8pm, and 1.79m (7.3%) watched I Love 1971 an hour later.

The Million Pound Drop Live flourished in its new 9.45pm-11.20pm timeslot, bringing in 1.38m (7%) to Channel 4 and adding 116k (0.9%) on +1. Only CSI: NY topped the million mark on Channel 5, with 1.27m (6.6%) at 10.30pm.

Overall, BBC One retained its primetime lead with 28.4% over ITV1's 20.8% (+1: 1%). BBC Two claimed third place with 6.7%, followed by Channel 4's 4.8% (+1: 0.7%), and Channel 5's 3.5% (+1: 0.2%).

Scandinavian crime drama The Bridge opened with 1.1m (4.6%) for BBC Four at 9pm, then 838k (4.5%) stuck around for the show's second episode. BBC Four averaged an impressive 3% across primetime.

Steven Spielberg's US musical drama Smash, based on the life of Marilyn Monroe, could only muster 75k (0.4%) for its Sky Atlantic premiere.

Britain's Got More Talent attracted 949k (4.5%) to ITV2 from 9.45pm (+1: 172k/1.2%).
