Kerry Katona has admitted that she is taking part in Celebrity Big Brother because she is bankrupt.
The former Atomic Kitten star claimed in June that she only had "£400 left in my bank account". She also confirmed that she owed her former management Can Associates £350,000.
Katona was the first famous face to enter the house last night, as Channel 5 relaunched the reality series.
"This is going to get me out of my bankruptcy," the
Daily Star quotes the 30-year-old as saying. "I get no maintenance. I've got four kids to raise, neither dad helps out or contributes in any way whatsoever, so I've got to work."
She added: "It's a gig and I'm being paid for it. It means I can keep my kids in another term of school."
Katona, who has a string of fly-on-the-wall series to her name, was given a secret task during the launch episode. Speaking to Big Brother in the Diary Room, she was told that she must "throw a massive celebrity tantrum" in front of her new housemates.
Celebrity Big Brother continues tonight at 9pm on Channel 5.
