Louis Walsh received a standing ovation from audience members as he returned to the judging panel on The X Factor following false accusations of sexual assault.

Leonard Watters, a 24-year-old dancer, admitted in court to lying about claims that he was indecently assaulted by Walsh in a Dublin nightclub earlier this year.

Walsh was cheered and applauded as he took to his seat, reports The Sun. He responded by saying: "Thank you very much."

As he and fellow judge Gary Barlow entered Cardiff's International Arena, he told fans: "I'm delighted. It is great to be here and get on with the show again."

An audience member added: "There was a lot of love for him among the crowd. He was really moved."

The Westlife manager previously said that the support he had received from members of the public meant "so much" to him.
