Ryan Jenkins and Paige Smith have become the first two contestants to be eliminated from So You Think You Can Dance?

The pair failed to collect viewer votes after performing with their respective partners Stephanie Powell and Gian Luca Loddo earlier tonight, and were forced into a four-way solo showdown in front of the judging panel.
After their routines, head judge Nigel Lythgoe first told Jenkins that he disagreed with co-judge Sisco Gomez's earlier assessment that his couples performance "lacked substance", but added: "A good dancer will make a routine great... it wasn't memorable."
Calling forward Smith, he lovingly described her as "a fun fireball of talent", before stating: "Tonight, it just went away."
Lythgoe then told host Cat Deeley that he, Gomez, Arlene Phillips and Louise Redknapp had unanimously decided to send the two home.
Upon the result, Deeley comforted Jenkins and a teary-eyed Smith by pointing out that the cheering crowd had risen to their feet to bid them farewell.
So You Think You Can Dance? returns next Saturday at 6.45pm on BBC One.
