ITV's Bromans dropped after first season

Well, it wasn't quite Love Island, was it?

It was tipped as ITV2's stand-in for Love Island, the reality series that would make losing it for another year that little bit easier, but Bromans has officially been cancelled.

Despite its promising premise, ITV has confirmed to The Sun that the unsurprisingly ridiuclous Love Island-Gladiators hybrid will not be returning for a second run this year.

"Bromans was lots of fun and a great show but we currently have no plans for it to return to ITV2," a spokesperson for the channel confirmed.

Although it's always sad to see a series unceremoniously binned, it's easy to see why Bromans didn't quite capture the hearts of the nation in the way that Love Island did.

Weirdly high concept for a reality show, Bromans followed eight couples as they tried to live and fight like gladiators in Ancient Rome before securing eternal fame and glory. Sort of.

In happier telly news, it's believed that this year's run of Love Island will be the longest yet, lasting a whopping eight weeks.

It's believed the latest cohort of hopefuls will return to the same Majorcan villa as last year but will have their stay extended a week longer, which is 100% our type on paper.

The hugely popular Love Island is expected to return at the end of May (which is next month!) or at the start of June, although an official launch date has not yet been revealed.

Bromans and Love Island aired on ITV2.
