Selasi Gbormittah has become the latest hopeful to be sent home from The Great British Bake Off - and even Mary Berry is gutted to see him go.

We all fell in love with Selasi over the past few weeks, but he just missed out on a place in the Bake Off final after a bit of a nightmare during Patisserie Week.

He came last in the technical challenge, his signature palmiers were raw and his showstopper fondant fancies - for which he had to remake his sponge - were deemed a little too sweet by Mary and Paul Hollywood.

But speaking about his exit, Selasi was just as chilled as ever - admitting that it was "time for him to go".

"It's a massively great achievement for me personally, and my family, to get to the semi-finals," he said. "It's been absolutely amazing, splendid, I loved it all.

"I was almost at the last hurdle and then I dropped the ball. I can't blame anyone else but myself. I was sorry to be going, but also accepted it at the same time."

"I have read that I am known as Mr Cool or the chuckling zen banker - that does make me smile," Selasi joked. "I am very laid back and that can be scary sometimes because I am so chilled.

"I feel you don't need to panic - I look at things in the best way possible and being an optimist think that's the best way to get through life."

That's advice we can all live by, surely? But if you're dying to know more about Selasi's friendship with Benjamina, he opened up about that too.

"'Benjalasi' was hilarious particularly as we have such a good sister-brother relationship," he said. "We had such a great bonding in the tent, and she laughed at my jokes!"

Oh man, we're going to miss Selasi so much - and not just because he hinted that he would bake in a dress if he made it to the final.

But Mary might be the most upset about it all, saying: "No-one is more sad than me to say goodbye to Selasi. What a great character and what a baker."

It was a much better week for Andrew Smyth, who started on a disastrous note as he had to remake his puff pastry during the signature challenge - but turned it all around in time.

He was named Star Baker after his beautiful orchestra-themed fondant fancies were praised for their texture, look and taste. Yummy.

Andrew will now join Candice Brown and Jane Beedle in the battle for the Bake Off trophy in next week's finale, which airs on Wednesday (October 26) at 8pm on BBC One.
