Strictly Come Dancing will kick off with its first live shows from Friday, September 23 – and the BBC has now confirmed what it has planned for the celebrities and professional dancers.

As usual, there won't be any eliminations for the first week.

Scores from the judges will be carried over to next weekend, when viewers will get the chance to vote for their favourites.

On Friday, six of the couples will be taking to the ballroom hoping to impress Len Goodman, Darcey Bussell, Bruno Tonioli, and Craig Revel Horwood, before the remaining nine couples give it their best shot on Saturday.

The BBC recently shut down fix claims made by James Jordan, after the former star claimed that the show was fixing the couples in favour of certain professional dancers.

James had taken particular issue with the fact that Karen and Kevin Clifton had been partnered with Will Young and Louise Redknapp respectively – both of whom have had prior dancing experience.

But the BBC said: "This claim is complete and utter rubbish.

"Pairings of celebrities with the professional dancers is based on many factors and designed to give the celebrities the best possible experience on the show.

"It's the public who decides the winner, not producers."

This series of Strictly is also Len Goodman's final year on the show, after the head judge announced his exit earlier in the summer.
