The pair found themselves in the dance-off against Katie Derham and Anton du Beke after the judges' scores were combined with the viewers' votes.

Out of their two semi-final dances, Anita and Gleb performed their salsa to 'Feel This Moment' by Pitbull and Christina Aguilera, while Katie and Anton waltzed to Puccini's 'O Mio Babbino Caro'.

Craig Revel Horwood voted to save Anita and Gleb, while Darcey Bussell and Bruno Tonioli both voted to save Katie and Anton, leaving head judge Len Goodman with the deciding vote.

"I'm just judging this on this one dance. Nothing that's been, nothing that could be in the future or in the final," explained Len before he revealed he wanted to save Katie and Anton.

Neither couple had previously been in the dance-off.

It marked only the second time this series that the judges haven't agreed on the couple to save. Back in Week 9, Len disagreed with his fellow judges' decision to save Peter Andre and Janette Manrara over Jamelia and Tristan MacManus.

The result means that next week's final will be contested between Katie and Anton, Georgia May Foote and Giovanni Pernice, Kellie Bright and Kevin Clifton, and Jay McGuiness and Aliona Vilani.

After her exit, Anita said she has had the "most incredible time" on the show and praised Gleb for "bringing out the best" in her.

"Gleb is a slave driver, he's beautiful but he's also got the most creative mind. Honestly, I've just had the best time," she noted. "I can't wait to watch the final. You are all sensational dancers and I can't believe I have managed to get this far with the calibre of dancing."

Gleb added: "The past 12 weeks have been absolutely incredible. I've loved every day spent with you, teaching you, creating with you. I've learnt a lot, you've been so fearless and driven, you want to learn and I couldn't have wished for a better partner."

The results show also featured a festive music performance from Kylie Minogue who was accompanied by the Strictly male professional dancers.

Next Saturday (December 19), Strictly Come Dancing airs two live shows as the four finalists compete for the Glitter Ball trophy.

In the first show at 6.35pm on BBC One, all four finalists will perform two dances - the judges' choice dance from the series, as well as their show dance. Voting opens once all couples have danced twice.

In the live results show at 9pm on BBC One, one couple will be eliminated at the start of the show, before the three remaining couples perform their favourite dance from the series. One couple will then be crowned the Strictly Come Dancing Champions 2015.

The judges' scores will be for guidance only and the public vote will decide who wins.
