The amateur sewer beat Chinelo Bally and Tamara Melvin to be crowned the winner of the BBC Two show.

The finalists had been tasked with making a silk men's tie, creating a child's dress from a wedding dress in the alteration challenge and finally a glamorous show-stopping dress in the final of the reality show, which is presented by Claudia Winkleman.

Upon being announced as the winner, Jacks appeared completely shocked and said: "I was so, so certain in my mind that it wasn't me, for sure."

Judge Patrick Grant added: "I think throughout the weeks, Heather has just been quietly biding her time. She's always shown competence but finally this week she's absolutely pushed the boat out.

"We wanted something worthy of the name couture and of everything we've seen really that final dress was the epitome of that."

Meanwhile, judge May Martin said: "She showed us how well she could handle fabric, how well she could fit to the body and some wonderful hand-sewing skills."

Runner-up Melvin said that she was "disappointed" but also proud of herself for coming joint-second place. Bally said that she was going to "treasure every single moment" of her time on the programme.

Finally, Jacks added: "It's been an incredible experience, I've learnt so much and not least from my fellow competitors. And I thank them from the bottom of my heart for that."
