The Channel 4 competition has seen a number of injuries, with Sam Jones quitting after hurting his shoulder and Tara Palmer-Tomkinson choosing not to compete before the show began.

Meanwhile, Henry Conway revealed that he would have to quit yesterday after breaking his wrist during skeleton training.

Channel 4 has now confirmed that Messenger suffered from concussion and has left the competition after medical advice.

"After weeks of training for The Jump, Melinda Messenger has had to pull out of the competition after suffering from concussion following bobsleigh training a few days ago," a spokesperson said.

"It had been hoped that she would recover quickly enough to continue in the show but as she hasn't been able to train on medical advice she sadly had to withdraw."

nvestigative journalist Donal MacIntyre - who lost out on a place in the show to Conway's replacement Joe McElderry last night - will now step up to take over from Messenger.

"I'm tremendously excited about joining the show," he said. "It's my most dangerous mission yet!"

MacIntyre will compete from tomorrow night's show onwards, while The Jump continues tonight at 8pm on Channel 4.
