The golfer and his professional partner Aliona Vilani faced off against fashion designer Julien Macdonald and partner Janette Manrara, after both couples found themselves in the bottom two.

This weekend, the 15 couples danced for the public vote for the first time this year, with Claudia Winkleman filling in for the ill Bruce Forsyth with co-host Tess Daly.

After judges' scores were combined for the last two weeks, the overall standings were added to the viewers' votes to decide the first dance-off of the series.

Tony and Aliona performed their Charleston routine again to 'It Don't Mean A Thing (If Ain't Got That Swing)' by Chantz, while Julien and Janette performed their Tango to 'Applause' by Lady Gaga.

Judges Bruno Tonioli, Len Goodman, Darcey Bussell and Craig Revel Horwood delivered their verdicts, with all four electing to save Julien from elimination.

Len Goodman said: "Tony you've been one of my golfing heroes all of my life. Sadly I have to say I would have gone with Julien and Janette, but you're still one of my heroes."

Jacklin said of his time on the show: "I'm a tough pupil. Aliona is a wonderful teacher. I'm going to stick to golf I think. I have enjoyed myself, it's been a glimpse into another world which I have thoroughly enjoyed.

"I had no concept of the work that goes into this, and the work ethic that these girls have. I did my best."

Bros singer Matt Goss performed on tonight's results show, singing 'When Will I Be Famous?'.

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday, October 12 at 6.30pm with a 'Love Week'. The results show will follow on Sunday, October 13 at 7.20pm on BBC One.
