Melinda Messenger has praised Heather Mills for her success on Sunday night's Dancing On Ice.

The TV presenter, who competed on last year's series, admitted that she was shocked by how well Mills had mastered the skills required for the contest.

Mills lost her left leg in 1993 after being hit by a police motorbike and now wears a prosthetic limb. She has said that she signed up for the programme to "challenge people's preconceptions of disability".

Speaking on Live From Studio Five, Messenger explained: "I wasn't particularly a fan of hers and I didn't hate her either. But when I saw her skate, I had complete respect for the woman. She's got guts, she's completely brave to do something that is so technically difficult.

"It's so hard, it's one of the hardest things you can do because you have to balance so precisely, you have to move your ankle a certain way, so it's beyond me how she's actually physically able to do it."

Messenger also dismissed suggestions that Mills had received sympathy votes at the expense of other contestants. She said: "I've got to disagree with that actually, because she did skate technically well. She did crossovers, which are particularly difficult, and she managed them. Some of the others didn't."

According to news reports this morning - Heather Mills has had to order a new leg because of the amount of weight she's lost during the show. Apparently her leg came off in rehearsals but was kept in place by her tights.

Credit where credits due - she's doing amazingly well and I love hew new hairstyle!
