'Superstar': first contestant eliminated...

Afnan Iftikhar has become the first singer to be eliminated from Superstar.



The 23-year-old from North Shields fell into the bottom two on Monday night's (July 16) live show along with Dirk Johnston following a public vote.

The pair performed 'Memory' from the musical Cats before Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber decided to eliminate Iftikhar from the competition.

"This is really hard... we are doing a song totally different to what has been on the programme so far and you two boys both sang beautifully," he told the pair.

Iftikhar had performed a rendition of 'Next to Me' by Emeli Sandé on Sunday's first live programme.

Superstar continues nightly at 9pm on ITV1, with another elimination due to take place on Tuesday's show.
