Celebrity Big Brother Sally Bercow facing 'gruesome' divorce

Sally Bercow could be facing a "gruesome" divorce from husband John due to her decision to compete in Celebrity Big Brother.



The 41-year-old is alleged to have infuriated her husband, who is speaker of the House of Commons, by ignoring concerns that her participation in the reality show could undermine his position.

"There is no doubt that this could end his marriage," a friend of the speaker told The Mail on Sunday. "The stress and strain has taken a terrible toll on him.

"He has lost weight and gone greyer. He looks terrible and feels terrible. He can't go on like this. Some of us have told him he has got to seek a divorce for his sake and for his children's."

Another colleague claimed: "John is in despair. He just can't understand her obsession with being on the media and acting in such a provocative manner.

"He is determined to make a success of being speaker and takes the job very seriously. He regards it as an enormous privilege. But every time he is interviewed all they want to talk about is Sally's latest stunt."

Sally admitted during Thursday's Celebrity Big Brother launch show that John was "not exactly chuffed" with her decision to enter the house.

"He wasn't very pleased at the time but he does know what I'm like and he respects the fact that I do my own thing," she claimed.

Bercow is currently facing eviction from the Celebrity Big Brother house alongside Kerry Katona and Bobby Sabel.

Sally Bercow laughs off "ridiculous" divorce claims



Sally Bercow has laughed off speculation that her decision to take part in Celebrity Big Brother could lead to the breakdown of her marriage.

The 41-year-old is said to have infuriated her husband John, who is speaker of the House of Commons, by agreeing to join the Channel 5 series. Reports claim that Sally faces a "gruesome" divorce as John considers their future together.

Bercow told New magazine before entering the house: "For God's sake, no! It's just ridiculous. He wouldn't divorce me because I embarrass him and if I embarrass anyone, it will be myself.

"I can't really speak for him. All I can say is that he knew what I was like when he married me. He knows I'm doing it for a good cause. He'll come round, but I can't say he was over the moon."

Asked if she was worried about the impact Celebrity Big Brother could have on her or John's career, she responded: "I'm not. I hope people will get to see the real me rather than the me portrayed in the press.

"They called me shameless and attention-seeking which is absolutely ridiculous, complete snobbery and sexism."

Bercow added: "The main reason I am going in is to raise £100,000 for my charity. Of course I would like to boost my own career, too. I am in the middle of writing a novel."
