An eighth celebrity has been eliminated from the competition



Doctor Who star Alex Kingston has become the eighth celebrity to be eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing, after landing in the dance off against Balvinder Sopal and Julian Caillon.

During Sunday's results show, Alex and her professional dance partner Johannes Radebe attempted to secure their place in the competition by performing their Cha Cha to Anita Ward's 'Ring My Bell'. Unfortunately for the duo, judges Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Head Judge Shirley Ballas, the latter of whom had the casting vote, decided to save Balvinder and Julian.

As they headed over to co-host Tess Daly, Alex reflected on her Strictly journey. "I had never in my wildest dreams imagined that I would last this long. It's been just the most incredible journey for me," she began.

"I feel quite proud of myself because I've loved the process, I mean 100%, you can tell by my smile. Everyone always says that their dance partner is a friend for life, but JoJo really will be."

Johannes added: "I've never grinned as much as I have in the last few weeks. Thank you Alex for being a trooper, I will hold on to the memories. As far as the dancing goes, I think we've achieved what we wanted to achieve. These memories are just the beginning for us, we can say that we are very much a Strictly family."

While Alex has officially left the competition and will not compete in next weekend's Musicals Week quarter-final, the TV star has certainly left her mark on Strictly.

Back in October, Alex and Johannes made history after performing a "perfect" Rumba to Tracy Chapman's 'Fast Car'. In a Strictly first, Shirley Ballas, who was visibly moved, left the desk to congratulate Kingston, before a second judge, Anton du Beke, followed suit.

After Alex and Johannes learned that they'd received a score of 36, with Shirley granting them a perfect 10, co-host Claudia Winkleman pointed out that they'd reached another milestone. "We have never ever had a 10 for a Rumba in week four," she told the pair.
