Jade Ellis has become the latest act to be eliminated from The X Factor.

Ellis fell into the bottom two this week alongside boyband Union J after both acts received the fewest amount of public votes. After competing in a sing-off, she lost out in the judges' vote.

She performed a rendition of Dido's 'White Flag', while Union J chose to sing Pink's 'Perfect' in the sing-off. However, Tulisa's act was eliminated after the judges opted to save Louis Walsh's group.

This week saw the judges make the final decision for the first time this series. In previous weeks the result has been taken to Deadlock after the judge's decision was split. Louis Walsh and Tulisa predictably saved their own acts whilst both Nicole Scherzinger and Gary Barlow chose to save Union J and send Ellis home.

Louis Walsh was visibly upset at his act falling into the bottom two and said he "did not want to lose them". Meanwhile Tulisa praised Ellis saying she "sung her heart out" in her sing-off performance. Nicole Scherzinger was the next judge to vote and preferred Union J to Ellis. She said that although Ellis had possibly her "favourite voice" in the competition she saw how hard Union J were working.

The final vote came from Gary Barlow who gave both acts positive critiques. He admitted that he is "tough" on the boy band but sees potential in them whilst although Ellis is a "phenomenal vocalist" he questioned her desire to win. As a result he delivered the result that sent Jade Ellis home.

Ellis was criticised after she performed 'Freak Like Me', a hit for the Sugababes in 2001 in a Halloween special of the show last night.

Louis Walsh described the performance as having "more style than substance" and Barlow commented that her vocals war not as strong as previous weeks. However mentor Tulisa defended her act saying that she "took a risk" with her performance.

After Ellis, 25 was announced as the act leaving the competition this week Tulisa expressed her disappointment and said she could not understand why her act had failed to connect with the public.

On ITV2's The Xtra Factor she disagreed with a caller who said that Ellis had been in the shadow of Tulisa's other acts Lucy Spraggan and Ella Henderson. This week sees the 'Young' singer lose her first act in this year's series.

Host Dermot O' Leary told Olly Murs and Caroline Flack that he believes the voting is "so close" this year and that he was surprised to see Ellis leave the competition so early.

The X Factor continues next Saturday at 8.20pm on ITV1.
