Alan Sugar fires fifth 'Jnr Apprentice'

17-year-old student Hannah Cherry has become the fifth candidate to be voted off Lord Alan Sugar's Junior Apprentice.

Cherry was blamed for Team Instinct's failure in an art-selling task, as the Emma Walker-lead Team Revolution bagged £6,005 profit, compared to Instinct's £2,247.30.

Joking in the boardroom about the task, Sugar said: "I don't know much about art quite frankly. The sort of pictures I like have the Queen's head in the middle and the number 50 up in the corner."

Walker, Zoe Plummer and Arjun Rajyagor were rewarded for their impressive victory with a private consultation with a tailor and their own bespoke outfit.

Instinct's project manager Tim Ankers, Kirsty Cleaver and Cherry were brought back to the boardroom to defend their failure in the task. Sugar immediately criticised Cherry for her lack of input on the challenge, commenting: "You always seem to be hanging onto Tim's coat tails following him around for some sort of security!"

After the hopefuls debated the reasons why the multi-millionaire should keep them in the competition, Sugar blasted: "Listening to you I feel like van Gogh and want to cut my ear off!"

Explaining his final verdict, he added: "Hannah, you are a prime example of someone who is brilliant on paper - there is no question about that - but in the past four weeks I have felt you haven't shown me practical skills.

"On balance, academic qualifications are important but practical application of it is the next step so I'm sorry to say Hannah - you're fired!"

Speaking afterwards, Cherry said: "My one goal was to try my best and not have any regrets and I've left here really happy. I've had a taste of what it is like and I want to carry on. I'm excited for my business academy and I've still got my invention so hopefully in the future there is going to be more of it and I can't wait."
