Mourners gathered outside the BBC earlier this morning (October 27) to say a final goodbye to one of its best-loved figures… The Great British Bake Off.

Yep, people actually held a proper funeral, complete with hearse and customary cakes, for the show following its grand finale last night.

The procession was not actually done by the BBC, but was undertaken (pun intended) as a publicity stunt by the London Dungeon.

Passers-by caught the action on camera, with mourners carrying their Victoria sponges as they said their final goodbyes:

The press team said that they were "always happy to celebrate the darker side of life and baking".

"As the home to one of London's most notorious bakers 'Mrs Lovett', we decided that the London Dungeon should lead the nation's mourning," a spokesperson told The Telegraph.

"Being a GBBO superfan, Mrs Lovett is distraught that GBBO has had its final airing on the BBC.

"London Dungeon is known for celebrating the darker side of things, so we thought this was an ideal recipe of drama and baked goods with a liberal sprinkling of the macabre!"

While The Great British Bake Off is not entirely dead – it's moving to Channel 4, and you can find out everything you need to know about the change of channels right here – the final BBC episode was emotional nonetheless.

Over 14 million viewers – the highest ever overnight figures – tuned in to see Candice Brown be crowned the champion last night, reaching 14.8 million at its peak.

While we will be seeing those delicious looking cakes on Channel 4 from now on, you can still catch The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice on Friday (October 28) at 8.30pm on BBC Two.
